Rebel Sport appointed Kyly Clarke as the face their brand in February . The wife of Australian cricket captain, Michael Clarke (also an ambassador), she was chosen because “it’s about time we had a female ambassador associated with sport,” Rebel’s managing director Erica Berchtold told Fairfax.
Reaction on social media was immediate. Fellow women’s sport advocates, as well as high profile athletes, were upset a sportswoman wasn’t chosen and wasted no time in letting Rebel know.
“It’s about time we had a female ambassador associated with sport” RT if you think this should be a SPORTSWOMAN! #WomenInSport

Sensing an opportunity to promote women in sport and perhaps alleviate a little of Rebel’s pain, I had a chat with Ms. Berchtold and we agreed there was scope for Rebel to better support Australian sportswomen.

I’ve since been working with them to produce in-depth profiles of women from a variety of sports and you’ll be seeing those up on their website any day now.
You’ll also see Kyah Simon, Keesja Gofers and Jo Brigden-Jones alongside Sam Burgess and Marc Murphy in the 2013 Rebel Sport Christmas catalogue.
I’m glad to see a brand like Rebel Sport is open to dialogue and is now actively working towards promoting women in sport. Who’s next??

If anyone would step up I knew it would be you. Can’t say enough about your passion and willingness to have the hard conversations with the people that can make decisions. Good on you and Rebel Sport. Good question..who IS next?
Cheers D! Here’s hoping this is just the beginning.
Well done Dan 🙂
Cheers Sal!
