I’ve hunted down the best free wifi in Penrith so you don’t have to! Why? Recently I found myself out in the Western Suburbs of Sydney and my old stomping ground: Penrith aka The ‘Riff. Last time I was here, there wasn’t even such a thing as wifi! In order to set up my #MobileOffice, I had to do a bit of research and pavement pounding looking for a suitable place to work. To add extra spice to the mission, Sydney and the Western Suburbs were in the middle of a heatwave with temperatures up to 41 degrees… that’s 105.8 for any Americans playing along. Bloody hot, basically.
A quick google yielded some results:
Penrith City Council Free Wifi
This is great if you’re out and about. I tried the hotspot/s along in High Street on my phone. It dropped out a bit and you’re limited to 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi daily so not really all that useful for working.
But in this weather, hot spot has a whole different meaning so I moved on.
Free wifi at Penrith Library
I love libraries, they’re a great place for a mobile office because you have the added bonus of a power point to charge your device. But, the days of shushing librarians are long gone so you won’t get quiet if it’s what you’re looking for. And the internet is SLOOOOWWWW… so, if you just want to do emails, it’s fine but you can forget any actual work that involves the internet. In my case, uploading to Facebook and tagging people and pages, a total no-go. Even Twitter struggled. Still, I will definitely go back.

I continue shopping around, next stop:
Free wifi in Westfield, Penrith
Mostly I included this because I wanted to show you this video:
I didn’t actually test it out because, why would you when they have:
Free wifi at the Apple Store in Westfield, Penrith
Hm, shiny. As I’m sure most of you know, the internet speed here is tops. The environment pretty chill and if you like worshipping at the Apple shrine, this is the place for you. However, it’s not entirely comfortable for long periods of time… usually:

And the winner of best free wifi in Penrith is:
Cafe Fred for awesome jaffles AND free wifi
Fred’s is totally my preferred Mobile Office while in Penrith. The staff were totally super and didn’t mind me spending the best part of 2 days working in here.
And the Jaffles! Mmmm… they remind me of my childhood though their fillings are a lot better than the tinned spaghetti I used to have in the ones I made as a kid. I had the special: Truffle mushrooms, swiss cheese, caramelised onion, spinach and their special home made mayo. Get that inta ya!
Coffee is A+, so is the aircon and the all-important internet speed is tops too.
And whoever has come up with the playlist deserves a medal. Here are a few of my faves:
Pics via The Westies – you should totally check it out if you want to know more about Sydney’s Western Suburbs:
The Westies project is a deeply personal one, it’s about connecting with the community that I grew up in and capturing the stories that exist here in the west. I am hoping to create a platform that shows people who we are and then other than geographical differences our stories are the same as anyone living anywhere.
